AOC is the Pan African Ocean, Maritime and Marine Business Community that culminates from the ground breaking Africa Integrated Maritime Strategy 2050 (AIMS2050) adopted by the African Union in 2015, advancing the multiple iteractions of the Africa Maritime Transport Charter and realising the Africa Blue Economy Strategy of 2018
Our work is premised on advancing the Africa’s blue economy aspirations, participation and contribution towards the global ocean and maritime sustainability agenda
Our work is based on the recognition that Africa’s active role in ocean sustainabilty stewardship is pivotal to the achievement of ocean sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals - being the largest island on the planet, surrounded by large oceans and seas with vast coastlines, home to the world’s largest inland waterways and a population of 1,3 billion
We work in collaboration with and within regional and international partnership networks in blue growth, sustainability and climate change and investment
We invest in and employ science, community knowledge systems and advanced sustainability and investment tools in growing Africa’s blue economy
We are committed to always act with integrity in all our dealings and conduct, upholding high ethical standards, accountability and stewardship
We promote people-centered, sustainable socio – economic and ecological development through inclusive multi stakeholder engagement, community participation and empowerment of youth and women
